On Tuesday 3rd June 2025, Anmore Dressage will host a full-day groundwork clinic at Highbank with resident trainer Lisa Wessels. The session is designed for riders wishing to build a stronger relationship with their horse through practical, calm, and confidence-led training.
The course draws on Lisa’s experience working with young horses and her background in the Your Horsemanship method developed by Jason Webb. Her approach helps both horse and rider gain trust in each other, often unlocking progress that proves essential for ridden work.
A Flexible, Rider-Focused Format
Unlike more traditional clinic structures, Lisa’s groundwork day is built around the specific horses and riders who attend. Rather than following a fixed timetable, the training is shaped by individual needs—whether that’s improving handling, addressing behavioural issues, or increasing confidence when working on the ground.
The format allows Lisa to focus on what’s happening in the moment. She works with horses and handlers in real-time, guiding each combination through exercises that best support their goals and challenges.
Tailored to All Levels
The course is suitable for those bringing young or inexperienced horses, as well as established riders looking to reinforce groundwork as part of their wider training. Spectator spaces are also available, with observers invited to watch the sessions and join in group discussions throughout the day.
Topics are likely to include:
-
Building trust through groundwork techniques
-
Addressing tension or anxiety in new environments
-
Developing leadership and calm handling
-
Long lining and confidence outside the arena
