Jezz Michael Palmer is an accomplished dressage rider and director of Anmore Dressage whose career has been shaped by consistency, dedication, and an uncompromising commitment to high standards. From an early age, horses have been central to Jezz’s life, and that lifelong connection continues to define his professional focus today: the careful production of dressage horses through to the highest levels of the sport.
Jezz’s journey began in childhood, growing up around horses through his family and working at a riding school from a young age. Initially drawn to show jumping, his path shifted decisively toward dressage after taking on a challenging horse that required a more structured and systematic approach. This experience led to formal dressage training and, soon after leaving school, his first position at a professional dressage yard, where he spent five formative years developing both technical skill and discipline. Further experience followed in Warwickshire, working with a larger number of horses and deepening his understanding of production and performance, before establishing JLP Dressage alongside Lucy Palmer.
Over the years, Jezz has trained with three Olympic riders and built a competition record that reflects both consistency and ambition. His achievements include 11 National Titles, 41 Regional Titles, an international win, and numerous top-five international placings at Small Tour level. He has trained four horses to Grand Prix and produced multiple horses to international Small Tour, with standout appearances at the World Breeding Championships in 2024 and 2025. Competing on this stage marked a significant milestone in his career, reinforced by positive feedback from judges, an affirmation of his approach and direction as a rider.
Jezz’s training philosophy is rooted in patience and longevity. With young horses in particular, he believes in working “little and often,” allowing strength, confidence, and understanding to develop gradually. This thoughtful approach underpins both performance and welfare, ensuring horses are produced with their long-term future in mind.
As a director, Jezz leads by example. Known for his strong work ethic and direct, honest communication, he places great importance on creating a supportive and open working environment. He is committed to ensuring that every member of the team feels heard, respected, and comfortable raising challenges. Clear boundaries, mutual respect, and shared standards form the foundation of his leadership style, helping to build a cohesive and motivated team.
Looking ahead, Jezz’s vision for the business is both strategic and ambitious. In the near term, he is focused on developing a strong and sustainable sales model, producing horses efficiently while building financial stability. Longer term, his goal is to retain and develop horses through to Grand Prix level, establishing the yard as a recognised name internationally and one of the leading dressage operations in the UK. Alongside this, Jezz’s personal ambition remains clear: to compete consistently at Grand Prix and ultimately represent his country as part of a team.
